About Priscilla

I have been involved in art since I was a small child.  I loved pencils, crayons, paint, clay, papier mache, and all other art supplies. The medium which I now use is casein, an opaque water-based paint.  I like it because it dries fast, does not require solvents, and the opacity allows me to cover up and change colors very easily.

Technique

My technique is pointillism, the art of painting with small dots [points], invented by the French painter Georges Seurat in the late 19th century.  He influenced other artists such as Paul Signac to use the pointillist technique. Many pointillist works emphasize surface texture and decorative patterns more than three-dimensional space.  This trend was carried on by the Nabis painters in France around the turn of the century.  I like to remind myself of a quote by Maurice Denis, one of the Nabis group in 1890:  “Remember that a picture, before being a battle horse, a nude, an anecdote, or whatnot, is essentially a flat surface covered with colors assembled in a certain order”.
